Malak Taus at Ashura by ~cryptoclassic
Another fascinating catch on DeviantArt. Malak Taus — the fallen-angel Peacock God of the Yazidis — depicted present in the Shi’ia Rite of Ashura (where the Shi’ia try to emulate the pain of persecution withstood by their founding martyrs Ali, Hussein and Hasan).
Beautiful work. Perplexing even.
The Yazidi and Shi’ia Islam are two very different religious traditions (though the Yazidi might be an offshoot of Shi’ism). I would think the Yazidi also have a similar tradition of martyrdom and persecution complex that the Shi’ia do… But do they have something as extreme as Ashura?
